New Leadership team at Morning Star CDC

May 1, 2014

Hello! My name is Lonnie Wilkerson and I will be assuming the duties of Executive Director of Morning Star Child Development Center beginning Monday May 5th. Today is the culmination of several months of conversations with the Woodbridge Church of the Nazarene Church Board and the Senior Pastor Athan Burch. I am excited to begin this new chapter in the history of Morning Star and look forward to meeting and learning about each of you.
One of my favorite authors Leonard Sweet offers the following quote and I think it sums up what our immediate future entails. He says,
The Christian faith respects both continuity and change, and yokes tradition and innovation. Hebrews 12:1 even tells us that we have a cloud-based faith: since we are “surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses” (tradition), we can throw off all the fears and restraints that keep us from the future (innovation).
All too often in times of transition, our focus is intent strictly on the times at hand rather than looking toward the opportunity and hope that change brings. So, you may be asking what will I see over the coming weeks? Well, lots of the same. We are preparing for our Kindergarten Graduation on Friday June 13th at 1pm. The Summer program is being finalized and registration is underway. And believe it or not there is still laundry to clean, subjects to learn and life to live.
But that doesn’t mean we are only concentrating on these next few weeks. We are introducing a newly designed Facebook page, the school’s website is being redesigned to better promote the school, and as we look toward School starting up in the Fall, a committee is looking at new curriculum options. I even hear that if Miss Lacey, the School Administrator, has her way, there are even plans to repaint the hallways.
These things and more could only be made possible because we have a wonderful and loving outgoing Director Robyn. Her years of service at Morning Star have led us to this point in our history. She is a valued part of what we are today and we thank her for leadership and dedication.
At Woodbridge Church of the Nazarene and Morning Star Child Development Center we believe in three values; Sharing Life, Serving Others and Searching Truth. These values will be the foundation of our relationship as we begin this life together.
I look forward to our time together. Grace and Peace for a wonderful weekend!
